NOTD - News for June 13, 2011

News of the Day

Movie News
  • Zombie epic World War Z, based on the best-selling book by Max Brooks, has started filming in Glasgow, Scotland.  Brad Pitt stars.
  • Cars 2 hasn't opened yet, but we have a teaser trailer for a direct-to-video sequel coming out in 2013 called Planes.

TV News
  • AMC has officially renewed The Killing for a second season.  I'm behind on it by several episodes (as I am with most of my television), but I'm glad to hear this as it's been a good show to watch so far this spring.
  • Conservative NBC affiliate in Utah, KSL-TV has announced they will not be running NBC's fall show, The Playboy Club.  The show is set in the first Playboy Club in the 1960's.  The network has previously refused to air other NBC shows including Coupling and God, the Devil, and Bob.
  • Get over it already, Game of Thrones fans.  Evidently, fans (who obviously haven't read the books) are in an uproar over the death of a prominent character.  Yes, I was shocked when it happened in the book, but these fans are threatening to stop watching the show.  George R. R. Martin's books don't take the easy way out.  If fans are going to embrace his world as represented in the HBO series, then let the producers follow his plots.  It's about time we get a little realism in our fantasy.
