After a long recap of the show so far, we come in on Ometepe returning from Tribal Council in the pouring rain. Rob starts helping the tribe get dry and warm; but we see Phillip in a diary scene talking about how he's the odd man out and he needs to find a way to break Rob's alliance. He's not wrong about anything he says, but I can't believe he doesn't see why he's on the outskirts.
Huddling together under the shelter, it looks like Rob and Phillip get to be cuddle-buddies. Rob's only concern is when he asks Phillip if he has his underwear on. The next morning we get our requisite shot of Phillip in his pink underwear - they can't give me a week off, can they?
Rob is talking to Grant about his miserable night with Phillip's knee in his back...at least he'd better hope it was his knee.
I love the scened of the girls stuck behind a bent over Phillip. One of them says, "It's seriously burning my eyes." Rob comes to the realization that he might be better off keeping Phillip because he keeps all of the attention off of him.
Cut to Zapatera where Ralph is bringing in a fish. Steve talks about how high their spirits are. Why wouldn't they be? The only challenge they've lost is the one they through. He wants to reach out to Stephanie and Krista (who were in Russell's alliance) to see if they can become a unified tribe.
Zapatera has to choose who gets to go watch the Redemption Island duel. Picking numbers, Stephanie and Krista get to go. We see a diary scene of Julie immediately saying that they can do whatever they want - with Russell gone they're not a threat. It sounds to me like she's tempting the Survivor gods to wreak havoc on the tribe. Rarely does a statement like that go unchallenged. And on the walk over, they start talking about how to get a message to the other tribe that they're both ready to flip at the merge because they hate their tribe.
We don't see them picked, but at the arena, we see Rob and Grant there for Ometepe. Kristina and Matt have to assemble a cube. Matt gets close, but he's wrong and has to start over. Kristina starts knocking her blocks off and starting over. Matt decides to take time while he's working to question Rob about why he was voted off. Rob just smiles and says it takes more than one person to vote someone out. Kristina gets close again, but suddenly Matt has his done winning his third duel at Redemption Island. He looks right at Rob and says, "I told you!"
During questioning at the end, Matt looks at Grant and Rob and says he'd planned on them begin the final three and that if he comes back to Ometepe, he'd still like to see it. The girls jump on this and talk about how they wish they felt that kind of tribe loyalty. Stephanie even says she thinks they'd look good in yellow (Ometepe's color). If they can make it to the merge, it could make for some interesting day ahead. Signalling that your willing to flip early on can have lead to an early exit though. I'll be curious to see if they can keep their cards close to the vest with the rest of the tribe.
Back at Ometepe, Phillip is venting about how he can't seem to connect with the girls. He's decided they remind him of crabs. The producers take advantage of this time to show lots of bikini time from Andrea, Ashley, and Natalie. This is why we'll never see Survivor: Antarctica or Survivor: Arctic Circle. The girls would have to wear clothes.
Andrea voices frustration that she works hard and wants to, but the other two that are superficial. She also says she'd rather see those two go home and keep Phillip. Later, she and Phillip connect and talk about possibly forming an alliance if Matt comes back. If Phillip can work this right (and turn down the annoyance factor), he could play this to his advantage. Rob is already second guessing voting him out, so if he can stick around, he might have a shot at making a power play. As Rob and Grant return to camp, Phillip says that Rob is the king, and he's a lord; he's just waiting for his chance to "replace the King." I don't think he can pull it off, but you never know in Survivor.
Flash over to Zapatera and we see Stephanie and Krista reluctantly returning to camp. They both seem adamant about their decision to flip, but they know they have to keep winning challenges if they're going to make it to the merge. In the tribe, Steve and Mike are talking about what a team they are. Krista says that since Russell left, there has been "zero talk" of strategy. Stephanie and Krista aren't making any attempt to fit in; they're hanging out together cooking, but not working with the other members. Julie voices concern that the tribe is overconfident. She's also still worried about karma from throwing the challenge earlier.
At the Immunity challenge, Jeff reclaims the idol and gives them the rundown. One person will be a caller; that person will direct their blindfolded team members to retrieve four bags of letters from a maze. The caller will then have to assemble the letters into a phrase to win immunity and a reward of coffee and pastries. Zapatera sits out Steve and Julie since they two extra tribe members. Zapatera starts arguing over who is going to call and do the puzzle, ultimately choosing Stephanie based on Sirita's decision. Rob is caller for Ometepe.
Stephanie is back in the lead. Rob realizes that he's dropped a piece and grabs it. They're both working on the puzzle, but Rob pulls it out giving Ometepe their first real victory and the first real food they've had since the start of the game.
Ometepe is in heaven pigging out on the donuts and relishing the victory. Grant is looking in the coffee and finds the clue. Rob sees it too, and he and Grant sneak it out of camp. Rob went and found the original clue (he already has the idol) that he had found from their last win. He hadn't shared it with anyone and replaces it with the new clue that had more information. I would not have thought to do that. It shows you why he is such a threat in this game.
Rob gives that clue to Grant, and they hide it. I was worried that he'd show the idol to Grant, but Rob is continuing to play smart.
Back at Zapatera, they're are second guessing Sarita's decision to put Stephanie at caller. Sarita upsets Dave when she says he's good at puzzles but crumbles under stress. Mike says Stephanie is number one on the chopping block. Julie wants it to be Krista. Sarita would like to see David go, but I don't think that's going to happen. Krista and Stephanie commiserate wondering if they can find a way to get rid of someone, but they realize that the tribe is so against them that they really have no chance. It sounds like they are planning on making a stand at Redemption Island. Krista shows a bit of an attitude saying that she doesn't think any of her tribe will be there at the end.
Krista calls out the tribe calling them the Brady Bunch going camping and taking along the two stepkids. The tribe jumps on Krista, and she keeps defending herself, probably ensuring that she's the one going to Redemption Island. She's not going down without a fight though and she calls out the pairs in the alliance of six and announces that Dave doesn't have anyone he's tight with for a sub-alliance. From the look on Dave's face, this is news to him. Now, Jeff calls out Stephanie for losing the challenge. Stephanie says she hopes her performances in past challenges has some weight.
The tribe votes. Jeff reads off the votes. Stephanie and Krista both voted for Steve. Krista gets the rest of the votes and is headed to Redemption Island. Jeff wonders if Krista's words caused damage within the tribe.
In previews for next week, Jeff says Matt struggles in the challenge (probably a red herring). At Ometepe, it looks like Phillip goes off on the girl tribe members when they have a spa day. So much for him playing smarter.
See you next week!
