News of the Day

Movie News
  • Let the media onslaught begin:

  • Matt Reeves (Let Me In) will direct The Dark Endeavor, the Frankenstein movie that jumps to the front of the glut of Frankenstein themed movies.  This one doesn't focus on the monster, but on the man.  It's based on Kenneth Oppel's novel, The Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein; it will be published this summer and is expected to be the first in a series.
  • Star Trek 2 may be getting bumped back to a December 2012 release date.  Originally scheduled for release in June 2012, the film lacks a completed script and a director at this point.  Although J.J. Abrams has not confirmed this, he is expected to return as director.  Paramount has also had to bump back the Chris Pine led revitalizing of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan character due to script problems.  Pine is supposed to shoot Star Trek first.  While it's a bummer to see the movie might be moved back, I'd rather have a great film six months later rather than a rushed film earlier.
  • Snow White appears to be in a bloody battle with herself.  After Univeral announced they were moving Snow White and the Huntsman's (Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth) release date up to June 2012 from December, Relativity has announced they were moving their release of Brothers Grimm: Snow White (Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer) up to March 2012.  Someone slip these studios a poisoned apple already.
 TV News
  • This is probably one of the bigger casting shockers for me.  Chris Meloni will not be back for Season 13 of SVU.  While the original Law & Order survived multiple cast changes, SVU has had Melonia and Mariska Hargitay from the beginning.  With Hargitay dropping to part time and only half a season, SVU will undergo some big changes as it remains the last man standing in the Law & Order franchise.
  • F/X has announced plans for a series based on 17th century Port Royal.  Sounds like it will be Boardwalk Empire with pirates.
