Sunday Bloody Sunday: An American Werewolf in London

Horror and comedy are hard to blend together well, but when it works, it's one of my favorite genre of films.

An American Werewolf in London is, in my opinion, not only a prime example of horror and comedy working together; it's the best werewolf movie ever made.  From Rick Baker's Oscar winning special effects to wonderful direction by John Landis, the movie still holds up 30 years later.

David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) are American tourists backpacking across Europe.  After ending up alone on the British moors, they are attacked.  Jack is killed, but David is saved by some local villagers.  Waking up in the hospital, he swears he was attacked by a wolf, but the witnesses say it was a man and have a body to prove it.  Despite his protestations, the police close the case.  David is soon starting to get visits from Jack (more decomposed each time he appears) telling him that he was attacked by a werewolf and will change on the full moon.  The only escape?  To kill himself.  Taken home by a  smitten nurse (Jenny Agutter), David soon finds Jack's been telling him the truth.

The movie is nothing short of brilliant, and it is one of those films, I rewatch regularly.
